BEEF is a continuous exploration of queer western narratives,

seeking to express what is experienced inside of the social context of western culture and the opposing force of nature.

Zender’s BEEF has elements of dance, theatre, imagery, sensation, and improv.

Inspired from the grit of the Mountain West.

  • Michaela Ellingson

    Michaela began her training at The School at DW. She received her BFA in Dance from SUNY Purchase where she had the opportunity to perform work by Doug Varone, Mark Morris, Netta Yerushalmy, Ori Flomin and Nelly Van BommelMichaela then danced with EDge Postgraduate Company at London Contemporary Dance School receiving her MA in Dance. While in London, Michaela performed work by Itamar Serussi, Robert Clark, Eleesha Drennan, Siobhan Davies as well as making a series of her own solo choreography. Michaela also performed with multi-disciplinary companies Bittersuite and Flavour and Some. Michaela has performed with Contemporary Dance Wyoming for 6 seasons performing work by Francesca Romo, Babs Case and Gina Patterson. Michaela has had the opportunity to work with Bill T. Jones, David Dorfman and Robin Mineko WilliamsMichaela was involved in Luke Dakota Zender's creative residency of his work BEEF at Destiny Manifests in New York and is thrilled to be revisiting the work again this summer.

  • Charlotte Landreau

    Charlotte is a native of France and is a pre Olympic ex rhythmic gymnast. After studying ballet, acting and modern dance at the Béjart School in Switzerland, Charlotte came to NYC to study at the Martha Graham School and was honored with the Excellence in Performance Award. Charlotte was hired and promoted Principal dancer, performing for the Martha Graham Dance Company for 9 years. Charlotte performed for many festivals in the country and is a master teacher in Switzerland, France and New York. Charlotte now teaches ballet, modern, contemporary and conditioning at DW.

  • Mikey Morado

    Mikey is a native of Colorado and received his Bachelor's in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College where he performed work by Mark Morris/Megan Williams, Cherice Barton and Beniot-Swan Pouffer. Mikey began an apprenticeship position for Sidra Bell Dance New York, joining the company full-time after graduating undergrad in 2013.  Mikey has performed as a solo artist and in collaboration with his partner, Mark Caserta, for numerous platforms including Boston Dance Festival, Gotham Dance Theater, Place des Arts/Springboard Danse Montreal, Wanderlust Dance Festival, and Austin Dance Festival. Most recently, Mikey was Co-Director of the Pre-Professional program/The Thriving Artist Project through Dance Industry Performing Arts Center in Dallas, TX where he was the resident photographer, lighting designer/operator, and stage manager for the White Theater.  Alongside Mark Caserta, Mikey has choreographed and produced stage elements for numerous installation performances, site-specific works, and evening-length productions including a recent commission from Dark Circles Contemporary Dance for their piece DREGS, featuring music by slowdanger.  Mikey is also a certified level II Reiki practitioner.

  • Luciana Johnson

    Luciana was born in Eugene, Oregon and trained predominately in ballet technique till the age of fifteen when she turned her focus towards modern dance. Luciana graduated in 2017 from the University of Utah’s School of Dance with a BFA in Modern Dance. Through her years at the University Luciana has worked collaboratively with many Professors and traveled through cultural dance exchanges to Berlin and Tel Aviv, studying under the instruction of Batsheva Dance Company. Upon graduation, Luciana moved to Los Angeles, California to continue her professional dance career as a collaborator and choreographer. Luciana continues to seek artistic opportunities within the LA arts community and beyond. Luciana’s interest in the study of sexuality, nature, and the animalistic self continues to inform her own work and has instigated beautiful collaborations in the past, present, and she believes, future. Luciana is excited to return to the continued research of BEEF with Luke Dakota Zender.

  • Luke Dakota Zender

    Luke is an artist, dancer and movement director interested in cultivating relationships between bodies and states of consciousness. Luke finds the meaning of life in movement and wants to share his perspective with as many people as possible. Originally from Wyoming, Luke was shaped by mountains and expansive open range, each integral to his understanding of art and culture. Performance, when approached with the same expansive quality, can transcend how we understand the world. As an artist and storyteller, Luke seeks to use multiple mediums and invites the art of collaboration into his process in an effort to find a more universal experience, cultivating collaboration and community.
