Salsa Cubana with Kristen Klein & Charlie Pike

Thursdays April 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30

5-Week Workshop
Thursdays, February 12 - March 12

Level 2

6:15 - 7:15 pm

Are you ready to take what you learned in our Intro to Salsa workshop into the Cuban realm?
This five-week Salsa Cubana Level 2 series is perfect for those of you that have completed the Intro course, a previous Salsa Cubana Level 1 course, have a good amount of experience with basic salsa footwork and moves or want to review and refresh your Cuban dancing. This is now the first Cuban-specific level in our program, and we invite you to come enjoy great Salsa and Timba music while socializing, learning and moving!
We will review familiar footwork and apply it to the Cuban style of Salsa known as Casino. The course focuses on essential moves of Casino that lay the foundation for your Cuban Salsa dancing, with a goal of building your confidence for both class and social dancing.
All students with previous Salsa class experience are welcome and no partner is needed as we rotate throughout the class

Level 4

7:30-8:30 pm

This intermediate Casino/Cuban Salsa workshop introduces both new, complex moves that build upon those learned in previous levels and some new, easy Cuban moves to enhance our versatility. We also focus on the skills that can improve your partner work and personal dancing and provide real guidance on how to combine moves to take them to the dance floor. A good balance of these classes is spent dancing what we know to great Salsa music and adding in new movement patterns, both in Rueda and one-on-one partnering.

This series will be taught by Sarah Hemphill, DW staff and certified Pilates instructor. Sarah has trained in the Moving Through Parkinson’s modality with the Center for Healthy Aging at Colorado State University and has 7 years of experience working with older adults. This class series is rooted in creative movement practices adapted for individuals living with Parkinson’s disease. While the methodology was developed for people with Parkinson’s, the class is suitable for a wide range of mobility issues including Huntington’s, multiple sclerosis, and the general limited mobility associated with aging.

Participants will focus on balance, coordination, spatial awareness, and creative expression. Each week introduces new movement ideas while revisiting and deepening previous skills, encouraging both continuity and mastery. This class combats the isolation experienced by some in this demographic by fostering social connection while supporting physical and emotional well-being.
