CONTEMPORARY DANCE WYOMING
Contemporary Dance Wyoming (CDW) is an ensemble of professional dancers that performs, teaches and inspires audiences in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and beyond. CDW is the resident company at Dancers' Workshop, led by Artistic Director Babs Case, and is the only professional modern dance company in Wyoming. In addition to performing, CDW plays an important role in the full circle of programming at Dancers’ Workshop including instruction in the School's youth program to teaching statewide outreach in regional school systems.
Blurring the edges of dance with physical theatre, CDW brings you original work that explores our culture's infatuation with beauty. Employing everything from humor to powerful and poignant choreography, you're invited to experience the unexpected in this summer's annual concert.
Plan to be spellbound in an up close performance space, including choreography by DW Artistic Director Babs Case and CDW Rehearsal Director Francesca Romo in collaboration with the dancers. Musicians Leif Routman and Shawn Fleming will accompany the work with an original score. Guest artists Daniel Staaf and Sarah Stanley will share the program.
In these open rehearsals, see where dancers draw their movement from - is it a lyric, a memory, a cultural movement? First Fridays, a glimpse into the rehearsal process, are a raw grab bag of everything that inspires CDW to move and create. Kick off your weekend feeling inspired! The creating does not stop after their annual summer concert.
Intimate, at times humorous and surprisingly transcendent, CDW's modern and postmodern repertoire combines dance with visual arts and the spoken word. Collaborations with guest artists push the Company’s repertoire in new directions and the company dancers to stretch their physicality. The Company’s varied, highly athletic and innovative repertoire provides local professional dancers performance opportunities in our community and throughout the western region.
CDW’s performing artists are at the core of DW’s educational and outreach programs. CDW artists do residency work with Teton County students and in underserved communities throughout western Wyoming, bridging gaps through the power of movement and modern dance.
