David Dorfman Dance at Dancers' Workshop

DAVID DORFMAN DANCE

AROUNDTOWN

8PM / SATURDAY, AUGUST 18

Aroundtown creates a village of characters in need – of each other. A kinetic hope poem, with original music, text and visuals, Aroundtown lingers in an ethical malaise, when love spoils and turns to violence – when one needs to move on, to try a stronger potion. How do we admit this void to ourselves and turn again, literally and figuratively, to love and intimacy? Using a raw and unique combination of off-kilter, seemingly impossible spins, perches and partnering, we show life out of balance, and reveal a path to hope.

David Dorfman Dance’s "radically humanistic" approach to the creation of new work manifests itself in collaborations with designers and composers, in addition to dancers. A live band on stage adds a hauntingly poetic and oddly humorous layer to the evening’s exploration of community, joy, and love.

Dancers’ Workshop hosted David Dorfman Dance in 2016 for an extended residency and the first incarnation of Aroundtown and is excited to once again connect this company with our community. A hallmark of DDD’s work is its community outreach and engagement: workshops for dancers and non-dancers in and out of the studio; lectures/demonstrations; open rehearsals and showings. David Dorfman's desire is to get "the whole world dancing"!
